LCBD Council Spring Events Announced

Major events of the 2013 Little Cities of Black Diamonds Council season are unfolding.  Mark your calendar to participate in these unique experiences set for this spring.

Music of the Little Cities Exhibit  & Coal Town Supper
Our Little Cities Appalachian Spring tradition will kick off on Friday, March 29th with the opening of the exhibit: Music of the Little Cities:  Coal Dust, Culture & Cause for Congregation in the lMusic Panel Smallobby of Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville as part of the Final Friday arts event on Public Square.  A Coal Town Soup Supper will be served as part of the event.  Hours 6-10PM.  Free admission.

11th Annual Appalachian Spring Celebration
This year’s celebration returns to Nelsonville and the stage of Stuart’s Opera House for our second Chautauqua-style show celeberating this year’s LCBD Council theme: Music of the Little Cities on Friday evening, April 19th beginning at 8PM.  AppalachianSpring2013Logo2A variety of regional musical acts will be interlaced with historical and current day narrative to create an entertaining and educational experience.  Tickets will be $10 in Advance and $15 at the door.  On-line ticket sales will begin in early March.

8th Annual Tour de Forest Benefit Bicycle Ride
Bicyclists will take to the streets and hills departing from Nelsonville on Saturday morning, April 20, the morning after the Appalachian Spring show at Stuart’s. Routes of multiple distances will take the casual and serious bicyclists into the hills of the Little Cities microregion and the Wayne National Forest while raising funds to support the Little Cities of Black Diamonds Council and the Little Cities of the Forest Collaborative.  Click here for more information and registration details.  Distance riders will enjoy an “opera house” theme during this year’s ride with a “century ride” through Shawnee and to McConnelsville where Stuart Opera House’s sisters, the Tecumseh Theater and the Twin City Opera House grace the skylines of these historic communities.
